Great fishing is a given in the Treasure State. From legendary trout streams to spectacular walleye reservoirs, Montana is an agler's dream. To fish in Montana, most anglers need two licenses: a Conservation License and a Fishing License. A Conservation License is needed before you can buy any fishing or hunting license that Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) issues. Beginning March 2000, conservation license applicants will need to provide their social security number in addition to the information usually requested.
By order of the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission (FWPC), the seasons, limits, and regulations listed here shall govern the 2000 fishing season. These regulations were adopted by the FWPC on November 12, 1999, and are valid March 1, 2000 through February 28, 2001.
